My journey with the Rubik's Cube started five years ago, when I received a Rubik's cube as a gift. I searched online for tutorials and eventually learned how to solve it using the beginner's method. I started timing my solves. In the beginning, my solves would take around one minute. Soon, I was addicted to cubing. The joy of getting a fast solve motivated me to learn more advanced methods. I also bought my first speed-cube - Rubik's cubes designed for speed-solving. I also tried out bigger cubes like 4x4 and 5x5 ,as well as 2x2.

In 2014, I took part in my first Rubik's cube competition. I had made a lot of progress and now was taking 15 seconds for a solve. In the school category, I won 1st prize for 2x2 event, which was totally unexpected. I also took part in the 3x3 blindfolded category.

In blindfolded solving, you have to memorize the cube, put on a blindfold, and then solve it without looking at it. It's not as hard as it appears, but if you make one small mistake, you will end up with an unsolved cube. In 2014, I got a time of 5 minutes- not a very good result. So throughout 2014, I tried to improve my blind-solving time.

In 2015, I took part in the competition and once again, I won 1st prize in 2x2 school category. I also improved in all events, including 3x3 blindfolded, where I got a time of 1:25. I started becoming curious about solving bigger cubes blindfolded. I noticed that no one in Singapore had gotten a successful solve in 4x4 or 5x5 blindfolded in a competition, so I decided to learn those two events. These are considered the some of the hardest feats in cube solving. Memorizing a 4x4 is the same as memorizing 2 3x3s, and memorizing a 5x5 is the same as memorizing 4 3x3s. Using memory tricks, memorizing this is easier, but the chances of failure are much higher.

In 2016, I took part in three new events- 4x4 blindfolded, 5x5 blindfolded and 3x3 multiple blindfolded, where the aim is to solve multiple 3x3 cubes at one go blindfolded. At that competition, I broke the national record for 3x3,4x4 as well as 5x5 blindfolded. I was very happy with this, as I was doubtful whether I could get a successful solve in 4x4 blindfolded and 5x5 blindfolded especially.

I further improved my results for these events in 2017. In blindfolded events, I further improved my four national records of 3x3 blind from 41.80 to 36.00 seconds, 4x4 blind from 9:26 to 4:05min, 5x5 blind from 26:47 to 12:22min, and 3x3 multiple blindfolded from 12/13 cubes to 17/20 cubes in one hour( where score is calculated as number of solved cubes - number of unsolved cubes). In Singapore open Cube competition there were 18 different event categories where participants from all over the world took part. I participated in 17 out of 18 events to have a feel of a lot more different kinds of events, such as 3x3 with feet, Rubik's Clock, and other exotic puzzles. I was juggling between two venue as I was participating in almost all events, due to this I missing one category of 7X7.

My younger brother, Nishant, also improved a lot in his solving timings. I would like to thank my parents for supporting me in this hobby, and I hope to improve in the future.
